Persuasive speeches can be very easy for some people to give because they have a natural ability to sway people's thinking. However, for many of us, when it comes to giving a persuasive speech, we aren't sure what we should choose for a topic. We think that we won't be able to persuade people to change anything. Chapter 12 does a really good job of explaining how we should choose a topic for persuasive speeches. The book says that you should choose a topic that you are interested in. I totally agree with that. If you are trying to talk about something that you have absolutely no interest in yourself, how are you going to persuade other people? When you are speaking about something that you feel very strongly about, people will notice your enthusiasm and connection to the topic and will be more likely to really listen to you. Another great suggestion that the book gives for choosing a topic is to select an issue that is current but not of common knowledge. People will want to know more about it because it is current and perhaps affecting them. A persuasive speech that is about a current issue will be more likely to grab your audience's attention and make them want to listen to what you have to say. You will have a better chance, then, of persuading them if they are listening. Persuasive speeches usually are about a topic that has opposing viewpoints. The audience might view the topic one way and the speaker the other way. That is why it is important in a persuasive speech to really give your audience a reason to listen to your side of the argument because they will often be very set in their ways and will need motivation to listen. Persuasive speeches can be very well presented if enough research, thought, and time is put in to them.
**What do you think is the most important thing to think about when choosing a topic for a persuasive speech?

  1. The most important thing that is important to think about when choosing a topic for a persuasive speech would be to choose something you are most knowledgeable about. The topic has to be important to you so then your audience can see how you truly feel about the topic and give your opinion on it. You also want to make sure the topic is interesting for your audience and not just yourself. If it does not interest your audience, and you are the only one interested, you will lose their attention right from the introduction.

  2. I think that the most important thing to think about when choosing a topic is your own personal interest and opinions. By picking a topic that you have an opinion on and interest in, you will be able to create a good speech because you are personally involved in your topic. Not all of your audience members may share your opinion or interest, but it is likely that the majority of them will at least pay enough attention to your speech and perhaps you will create an interest in them about your topic.

  3. i believe the most important thing to think about is choosing something you actually want to research and know about. it really makes the speech easy to write. also you want to make sure that you can find enough information on your topic because if you can't find information it makes the research part very difficult.

  4. I think the most important factor in choosing a topic is not only something that interests you, but something that relates with the audience. If you don't relate something to the audience, that will make them not interested and bored. It is never good to bore an audience.

  5. The most important thing that you should consider when choosing a topic for a persuasive speech is that you are interested in it. If you are not interested in the topic, then you wont be motivated to persuade others. Then, your speech will be pointless. If you cannot persuade even one person in your audience during your persuasive speech, then you did not do something right. So basically, choose something you love to talk about!

  7. I think that when you are choosing a topic it is definitely important to choose something that is interesting to you and that you know a lot about. It is kind of hard to convince someone of something that you hardly know anything about. Also, if you aren't interested in your topic you can't really expect anyone else to be either.

  9. I believe that when choosing a topic for a persuasive speech you should absolutely choose something that you like to talk about. That will make it a lot easier for you to research because you will enjoy doing the researching. I also think that it could be a good idea to pick topic that you may have been involved in or is a part of your life, because then you can give real-life scenarios for the listeners to visualize when listening to you. If you pick something that you can go on and on about it can be much more persuasive. People will consider what you have to say if you have a strong stance about something and sound like you really want to change what they think.
